Unmarried adoptions in Vietnam are looked down upon; Jolie had to adopt Pax solo.
Pitt's surname was requested April 16 filing in Superior Court.
Pax (3) was adopted from a Vietnamese orphanage last month, joining Pitt and Jolie's family: Maddox (5), Zahara (2) and their biological child Shiloh (10 months).
It's hard to adopt in Vietnam because the laws don't allow unwedded couples to adopt. So, Jolie applied solo, and Pax Thien became her son.

Let's welcome Baby Murphy Brown! Former Spice girl Melanie Brown has just released a statement why she named her new daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown.
Melanie's baby girl is Angel because she was sent from Heaven, Iris because that was Melanie's grandmother's name and the rest is explanatory.
Eddie Murphy and Melanie B were in a relationship when Angel was conceived. This is Scary Spice's second child; she has an 8-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with former husband Jimmy Gulzar.

It's reported leading lady Kirsten Dunst graced the red carpet at London's Leicester Square for the UK premier of Spiderman 3, with a handsome man at tow (Johnny Borrell).
Dunst was in a festive mood that night and paint the town red, stopping at every pub in sight.
Dunst emerged from the Camden pub looking, quite tipsy after ditching the official after-party.
Kirsten made comments about her current bloke Borrell, she loved that he was a geek, but confessed that she would never leave the U.S. for him.
When asked about her future plans with the Spider Man series, Dunst, who plays flame-haired Mary-Jane Watson, said that she would be a part of Spiderman 4 if the lead actor Tobey Maguire reprises his role, according to Daily India.
"As long as Tobey is involved in the film then I am there along the side of him - we have so much fun together," she added.

Victoria Beckham has been officially labeled a "BITCH" by her new reality show crew.
According to All Headline News, the former Spice Girl has infuriated staff working on the NBC show - which follows Victoria and husband David's U.S. summer move as David joins the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team - with her rude attitude and arrogant behavior.
A show source says: "She's thinks she's 'all that' and no else seems to matter. She's very demanding and rude.
"She has an attitude of an ice witch!
"The reality show is designed to make her a star in the States, but the rate it's going, America will be begging her to pack up and ship her back to Britain."
The producers are worried the series will be a major flop.
The source added: "No one knows what to do with her to make the show interesting - she's so boring! Every suggestion the producers make, she rejects." According to All Headline News.
