The movie star has paid an estimated $35 million for the 70-year-old, seven bedroom estate, which will replace the Beverly Hills home he has been renting for the last four years.
His current rented home is close to pals David and Victoria Beckham's new Beverly Hills estate.
Insiders claim the new house, which was not up for sale when the actor put in his offer, will serve as his main family home in California.

Paris Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days in prison for violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction. The hotel heiress must start her sentence on 5th June.
Hilton told the California judge she was not aware her licence had been suspended, despite having signed an acknowedgement when she was caught behind the wheel in January. Hilton was stopped by police for speeding on Sunset Boulevard with no headlights on in February. She was found guilty of a drink-driving charge back in September and ordered to attend an alcohol ecucation programme.
After turning up late for her court appearance, the socialite told the LA court, "I'M very sorry and from now on I'M going to pay complete attention to everything," but her pleas did not go down well with the judge. Hilton cried as she was sentenced. Her lawyer insists the conviction is unfair and plan to appeal.
Hilton's lawyer said in a statement, "To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is. She's been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system."
Paris must turn up at her designated California jail on June 5th or else risk serving a 90-day sentence.

In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior court, Morton, who once dated Lindsay Lohan, is going after an unknown cyber-troublemaker he calls "Jane Doe." In the suit, Morton claims "Doe" posted nude photographs of one of his friends and a false statement that the friend had AIDS. Morton alleges that the fake page was created to give the impression he had created it himself.
Morton, owner of the famous Pink Taco restaurant chain, says he suffered "emotional distress," was forced to "rehabilitate his reputation" and "lost business" due to the MySpace debacle. Morton also claims that he is working with the people at MySpace.com to identify the mysterious perpetrator.
TMZ was unable to contact Jane Doe ... because we have no idea who she is either.

Actress Lindsay Lohan appears to have returned to her wild ways, after she was filmed allegedly taking cocaine - less than two months since leaving rehab.
The troubled star - who claims to have sobered up after her recent stint at the Los Angeles Wonderland Center - is also reported to have bragged to friends about her sexual exploits with actors Jude Law and Spider-Man star James Franco as she partied at trendy Hollywood nightclub Teddy's.
A friend tells British newspaper the News Of The World: "That night I saw her do more than 20 big lines of cocaine. She was still up doing drugs at 11am. She was blatantly doing it off table tops, keys, books and in the wardrobe... In an average night Lindsay will do two and a half grams of coke on her own.
"She has told me that she has slept with James Blunt, Jude Law, Calum Best, Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Jared Leto and James Franco."
And the source claims the Mean Girls star only checked into the Hollywood treatment centre as a publicity stunt.
She adds, "Going to rehab was all for publicity. She wanted people to see her seeking help but it hasn't got her off the drugs at all."

Wayward British rocker Pete Doherty has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of drug possession.
The Babyshambles frontman, 28, was stopped by police in Kensington, west London on Saturday night.
English newspaper “The Sun” reports that police found Doherty in possession of crack cocaine and cannabis.
After spending the night in police custody, Doherty was released on bail on Sunday.
The arrest comes just three weeks after Doherty appeared in Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London, where Judge Jane McIvor praised the singer for his determination to beat his drug habit.
Doherty is no stranger to legal trouble, in the past two years he’s been arrested nearly 10 times on suspicion of drug possession or assault.
Meanwhile, his on/off girlfriend Kate Moss was spending the weekend miles away in The Cotswolds, central England.

Britney Spears could be singing a duet sometime in the not too distant future if a former boy-band member has his way.
Former N'Sync singer Lance Bass reportedly owns the rights to the Marilyn Monroe song "Down Boy" and a source tells Star, "he's offered it to Britney for her to sing along with, sort of like Natalie Cole when she sings to her dad's song 'Unforgettable.'"
Lance made the offer to Britney this week, and our favorite Pop-Tart is still pondering what to do, reports Star Magazine.

Forget the stars of the movie, the princess and the ogre, Fiona and Shrek. Most cameras were focused on another couple at the world premiere of Shrek the Third: the movie actress and the pop star, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake.
The longtime pair split late last year, and though there has been a report of at least one brief Hollywood encounter, the Sunday-morning ''Shrek'' screening marked the first major media event at which they've been photographed together since the breakup.
Cameron Diaz, who voices Fiona, arrived first, making her way down the green carpet in a bright-salmon Chanel dress, staying close to costar Mike Myers.
Justin Timberlake, who plays would-be king Arthur, walked the press gauntlet just steps behind Diaz, though the two didn't appear to make eye contact during interviews. But, later, at the cast photo, they were more than cordial, greeting each other with big smiles and sharing a hug and kiss.
