Paris Hilton is filling her time in jail by responding to fans' letters.
The socialite, who is serving time for violating probation on a 2006 drink driving charge, spends 23 hours a day locked in a cell at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California.
And she isn't sitting idle - she's putting pen to paper.
E! Online obtained one of the letters Hilton has sent back to a well-wisher, in which she writes:
"I read your letter and just wanted to thank you for your kind words of love and support.
"The fact that you took time out of your day to write me truly means the world. Especially at such a difficult and scary time in my life.
"But I am being strong and trying to make the best out of the situation. And the letters I'm receiving really do put a smile on my face as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone."
A representative for Hilton confirms the letter was written by the hotel heiress, adding, "She has been trying to respond to her fans as they write, personally."
Hilton began her sentence on 4 June (07); she is expected to walk free on Monday (25Jun07).

"It's sad that the whole world had to watch her make mistakes that all of us have made at one time or another," Spears is quoted as telling Us Weekly magazine in its latest issue.
The 25-year-old pop star completed a month long stay at a luxury Malibu, Calif., rehabilitation treatment facility in March after attracting an onslaught of media attention for wild behavior that included partying with Paris Hilton and a stop at a San Fernando Valley hair salon, where she shaved her own head.
The singer filed for divorce from Federline in November, just two months after giving birth to the couple's second child, Jayden James. Their older son, Sean Preston, was born in September 2005.
"Everything is going to be good," Lynne Spears tells the magazine. "Everything is going to be really good. I can see her life picking up and it's just going to hold great things for her."
"Britney Jean Spears is the sweetest and the most sensitive and loving of all my children," says Spears, the mother of three children with ex-husband Jamie Spears. "She's just figuring things out."

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "She is staying in Promises for longer than a month. We don't know how much longer because of her work schedule, but she is taking rehab very seriously this time and not messing around."

Brad Pitt's family have defended their close relationship with his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, insisting the actor remains on good terms with her too.
The couple divorced in 2005 after four and half years of marriage and, despite the fact Pitt has since started a family with Angelina Jolie, both his parents Jane and William and his siblings remain friendly with his former spouse. Jane even paid a visit to Aniston's Malibu house on Father's Day (17Jun07) for an afternoon chat, but Pitt's brother Doug is adamant there's nothing unusual about their continued contact.
He says, "Jennifer is a friend of Brad's. Why wouldn't she be a friend of ours?" The odd family dynamic is reported to have infuriated Jolie, but earlier this month (Jun07) she denied reports of a rift.
In fact, the mum-of-four maintained she was stunned at how welcoming Pitt's family were - both to her and her young brood. She says, "When I first met them I came in with two adopted children from other countries and I didn't know how they were going to be. But they are equally loving with them."

Jessica Alba recently revealed that her father was furious she posed for a mag cover in a pair of tighty whiteys (and nothing else).
"I did this risque cover for GQ, which my father is still really angry about. Mom thought they were cute pictures and said she really liked them but my dad didn't," Alba was quoted as saying in the UK's Mirror.
