Kelly Clarkson has made enough of a career for herself - her last album sold 11m worldwide - that she no longer needs the prefix "American Idol winner". This has given her the authority to dictate the shape of her third album, and she has opted for rock. That's not rock as in "ROCK", obviously, but the wipe-clean kind that begs your pardon for making noise.
Paradoxically, Clarkson has been hailing the "intimacy" of the self-composed songs, which were written during an introspective period that followed her winning no fewer than 21 music awards in 2005/06. She writes in bland generalities, though, rarely equalling the directness of the opening Never Again ("I hope the ring you gave her turns her finger green/I hope when you're in bed with her you think of me"), and uses her opulent voice as a battering ram. The spooky ballroom-waltz of Irvine just about saves things, and hints at what could have been.

Music producer Jonathan 'J.R.' Rotem has confirmed he dated Britney Spears just weeks after she separated from ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2006.
Rotem claims he and Spears decided to end their brief romantic involvement, which took place in December (06), for the sake of their careers. He tells U.S. magazine Blender,
"Britney and I were in a relationship. We were dating for about two weeks but decided for both our careers that it wouldn't be cool to have a romantic relationship. "She was really emotional and distressed at the time."

Actress Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake were seen strolling the streets of Oslo, holding hands and kissing aboard a speedboat as Justin continued his European tour.
The couple joined friends for lunch at T.G.I Friday's. During their afternoon promenade, Timberlake had his digital camera in hand when he wasn't holding Jessica's, reports Tmz.com.
Jessica wore a lovely 70s summer housedress and Timberlake was causal in his manpris sporting a big logo on his polo shirt.
Timberlake will continue with the northern leg of his Euro tour making his next stop in Copenhagen.

Actress Kate Beckinsale stole the show from action man Bruce Willis at the UK premiere of the fourth Die Hard film.
At the post-premiere party, she and husband Len Wiseman, the film's director, put on a display of dirty dancing that caused far more excitement than anything Bruce could manage on screen - not bad for a couple who have been married for more than three years.
Dressed in a figure-hugging white Herve Leger dress which allowed for not an inch of excess flesh, Kate and Wiseman smooched around the dancefloor at Cirque so closely entwined that at one stage it looked as if it would take a crowbar to prise them apart.

In an exclusive statement to TMZ, Hoff's publicist, Judy Katz, says that Hoff wants a "prominent apology from 'The Sun' tabloid over an article titled 'David's Back on the Sway.'" The article, which has since been removed from its website, claims that Dave celebrated his court victory by "getting completely plastered" at Les Deux nightclub in Hollywood.
According to the statement, "Mr. Hasselhoff emphatically denies the allegations," adding that if he doesn't get a heartfelt apology soon, "proceedings will begin next week in London's High Court for defamation of character, and there will be a Jury Trial in 2008, at which time he looks forward to clearing his name."
