Hotel heiress Paris Hilton launched a post-jail media make-over, vowing to shed her party-girl image and prove she is a changed person after serving three weeks behind bars for violating probation in a drunken-driving case.
"I'm a good person. I'm a compassionate person. I have a big heart. I'm sincere, and they'll see," Hilton told People magazine in excerpts published on Wednesday from her first interview since getting out of jail Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Appearing later on CNN's Larry King Live show, the 26-year-old multimillionaire said she felt bad that many of her former fellow inmates would end up back on the streets, and back in trouble, because they lack family or support systems.
"I want to help set up a place where these women can get themselves back on their feet ... kind of a transitional home," she said. "I know I can make a difference."
Hilton acknowledged she has long enjoyed the Hollywood party scene but added, "it's not going to be the mainstay of my life anymore."
"I've definitely matured and grown a lot from this experience," she told King. "I could be a more responsible role model."
She spoke in both interviews about why she was briefly released to home detention after just three days in jail -- a move swiftly overruled by a judge after a public outcry over whether she was given special treatment.
"I was basically in the fetal position, basically in hysterics ... and having severe anxiety and panic attacks," Hilton said in the People interview.
She told King she has suffered from claustrophobia since childhood, and in jail was forced to just "deal with it."
"I read letters, I wrote in my journal, and I would just close my eyes and pretend I was somewhere else."

Just a week after his fiancée hinted that babies could be in their future, the pop star and Tameka Foster have announced that they're expecting their first child together, due in the fall.
"We are extremely excited at this point in our lives planning our wedding and the joy that comes with expecting our first child together," the couple said in a statement released to the Associated Press Wednesday. A source "close to the couple" told the National Enquirer magazine: "Britney called Kevin and told him 'I'm not divorcing you! I want my family back!'
"He was stunned. The call was about custody rights, and though Kevin suspected Britney has been stalling the divorce because of second thoughts, he was shocked when she told him she wanted him back.
"The conversation grew heated and Kevin said he wasn't interested in a reconciliation.
"Britney got upset and threatened to drag out the divorce for months until he saw things her way and came back to her.
The 25-year-old - who has two sons, 21-month-old Sean Preston and nine-month-old Jayden James with Kevin - has reportedly been telling friends filing for divorce was a mistake and she wants to rebuild her marriage.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been voted Britain's greatest female ambassador in a new poll.
The actress, who plays Hermione Grainger in the boy wizard series, beat off competition from Keira Knightely and Lily Allen, who came second and third respectively in the poll, carried out by Top Of The Pops magazine. Peter Hart, editor of the publication, says, "A good ambassador needs brains and beauty, not just bags of cash."
Charlotte Church and Katie 'Jordan' Price were among the other ladies in the top five, while former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham found herself at the bottom of the poll.

The Spice Girls wannabe stars again.
Following a calculated publicity buildup, the original Girl Power group of the 1990s announced Thursday that they have agreed to reunite for 11 concerts around the world in December and January.
The shows will be their first concerts since breaking up in 2001, and the first with all five of the original group since Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell quit to pursue a solo career in 1998.
"Imagine you got divorced and you've got back together with your ex-husband," Halliwell said, explaining how she felt about the reunion.
"She just appreciates the fact we've let her back in," joked Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham.
Halliwell and Beckham joined with Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown to pose for photos and announce tour plans.
"We wanted to say thank you to our fans. It just feels very right for us," Chisholm said.
"Obviously it's nostalgic. But equally, if new fans want to come along, that's fantastic," Halliwell said. "I like to think our songs are universal and they are timeless."
