Cruise reportedly doesn't approve of the idea because he hates reality TV. He has threatened Holmes to participate but Mrs. Cruise is determined to join.
The source says Holmes' friend Victoria Beckham has introduced her to fellow Spice Girl Melanie Brown who in turn arranged for her to meet with the show's producer. Brown had reportedly encouraged her to go for it but Cruise is so vehemently against the idea.
"Tom's dead against Katie going on," the source says. "Katie's sick and tired of Tom micro-managing her career and she's hired a private dance instructor."

The former partners went their separate ways last year after collaborating on Lopez' much-hyped Sweetface label, which flopped at New York Fashion Week.
It has been reported that Hilfiger also argued with the singer because he resented her husband Marc Anthony's interference with her business affairs.
According to the New York Daily News, both parties are now planning to take action.
A source said: "It is expected that she will file suit and that he will countersue. They're likely to sue each other."
Hilfiger has now returned to work at his brother Tommy's fashion empire.

"Britney believes Kevin’s been smoking pot in front of the kids," a source told Life & Style magazine.
"She says she can smell it in the boys’ hair and on their clothes when she has her visitation with them."
The alleged drug exposure could give Spears the ammunition she needs to win back custody of her children from Federline.
"She’s asked the court-appointed monitor and her lawyers if they can prove the kids have been exposed to environments in which drugs have been taken," an insider says.
"They told her she should snip off a few strands of their hair right after they’ve returned from Kevin’s place and have them analyzed in a lab."
Addiction expert Marty Brenner confirmed to the magazine that the procedure would give Britney the answers she needs.
"The test must be done within a day or two after exposure," Mr Brenner said.
"Second-hand smoke would definitely show up, and results usually come back in a couple of days."
Britney, who has reportedly been under stress following revelations her 16-year-old sister Jamie-Lynn is pregnant, regularly submits to court-ordered drug tests herself.
Her legal team reportedly intends to call an emergency hearing if Sean and Jaden test positive.
"Kevin could lose custody," the insider said.
