Simon Cowell has urged Britney Spears to "go home to her mother".
The music mogul predicted the troubled singer's fall from grace months ago - after she shaved her head, checked in and out of rehab and became embroiled in a bitter custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline - and would have advised her to stay away from her "stupid friends" if he was her manager.
He said: "From where I sit, you could see it coming a long time ago. I said six months ago that she should go home.
"I'd have said, 'Stay with your mother, don't go out with your stupid friends, just live normally.' You'd be amazed - you live normally and suddenly everything becomes normal."
Simon, 48, also would have whisked Britney - who was hospitalised last week after refusing to hand back her children to Kevin - away from the public glare to help get her life back together.
Speaking on holiday in Barbados, he added to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "I would have taken her away somewhere quiet for six months. The problem with Britney is that I don't think there's anyone in her life that she listens to."
The 'X Factor' judge believes the pop star's problems need to be put into perspective when you consider the plight of others in the world.
He said: "I feel bad for Britney. But then I see the real world where people are struggling and you have to temper that with, 'Stop being stupid, go home. Life isn't that bad.' "

JLo told Harper’s Bazaar Magazine about being a working mother:
“I don’t know — and I like that, because my life has been so planned for so many years. Once I did the tour, I really just wanted to shut it down.”
Jennifer Lopez announced her pregnancy at a Miami concert on November 7 and is 7-months along with twins.
Jennifer Lopez also told Harper that her husband had a hand in her decision to keep the pregnancy on the down-low.
“He made me realize you can be an artist, and have credibility and success, without your life being on public display,” she says. “This is my experience and my husband’s experience, and we get to hold that for a little while.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are ready to push on with that “football team” of a family they’ve repeatedly talked about in the past, and what’s more — Angelina Jolie is hoping that baby No. 5 will be her second biological child with Brad Pitt.
“Brad and Angie are hoping it’ll happen soon, before Shiloh gets too much older,” a source close to the family tells America’s OK! Magazine.
Last year, Jolie, 32, rejected claims she wanted another child - but now she can’t wait to get pregnant again - but it’s taking much longer than she thought; unlike the conception of the couple’s now 19-month-old daughter Shiloh, and believes it may have something to do with her dramatic weight loss, brought on by the death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, last year.
“A family member told her the more she stresses about it, the longer it might take,” the source added. “Angie agreed and said she’d talk to Brad about the possibility of using fertility drugs.”
As for Pitt, 44, he’s already said to be making space at the couple’s Malibu home to accommodate their plans, with Shiloh moving to her very own “grown-up” bedroom with a canopy bed while her nursery will be refurnished for their unborn.
“He’s repainting her old room in neutral tones so they have a blank slate for the next addition,” a friend of Brad said.
“They’re ready,” a Pitt family friend adds. “Brad’s family is hoping it’ll happen soon.”
