Britney Spears' mother has alleged that the 26-year-old singer was "drugged" by her self-styled manager, Sam Lufti, in order to take control of her life, home and money.
Reuters reports that Lynne Spears' allegations were contained in a sworn declaration submitted to the court in order to obtain a temporary restraining order against Lufti.
The restraining order against Lufti forbids him from contacting Spears in any way.
In the declaration, Lynne Spears alleged: "Mr Lutfi drugged Britney. He has cut Britney's home phone line and removed her cell-phone chargers. He yells at her. He claims to control everything - Britney's business manager, her attorneys and security guards at the gate."
Lynne Spears describes arriving at her daughter's home on 28 January and finding her in a confused state.
She said: "Britney... became very agitated and could not stop moving. She cleaned the house. She changed her clothes many times. She also changed her dogs' clothes many times. Britney spoke to me in a tone and with the level of understanding of a very young girl."
The singer's mother claims that Lufti told her and a friend that he gave the 26-year-old tablets ground up in her food to keep her quiet and told the troubled entertainer that she had to take "10 pills a day" if she wanted to see her two young sons.
Britney Spears' father Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallete have been granted temporary control of the star's assets, pending further legal proceedings.
A judge has ruled that Spears must be examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist to determine if she understands the legal proceedings.

David and Victoria Beckham are rumoured to be planning to adopt an African orphan following David's recent visit to Sierra Leone.
The couple are said to have been considering the idea for a while, but the footballer has become increasingly keen after visiting the poverty-stricken country two weeks ago.
He spent time at a health clinic, witnessed a birth and joined workers vaccinating children in the community during a four-day trip in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s UNICEF Children’s Charity.
He said at the time: "I was close to tears. I had to step back and take a deep breath. I'm a very emotional person and I'm even more emotional now I'm a parent."
According to Grazia, the pair have spoken to friend Tom Cruise about his experience of adopting two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
A friend is quoted as saying: "Adoption is something David has been talking about for some time. Tom has talked to David about how adoption changed him and how he’s been able to change the lives of two amazing children.
“If there is one subject that can move him to tears, it’s the thought of being unloved, uncared for and with no hope or future.”
The source added: "It’s clear they both think adoption is great.”
However, a spokesperson for the Beckhams dismissed the claims, saying: "They both have said that they admire people who go through the adoption process, their focus is raising their own three boys."

Kate Hudson is to take the lead role in Big Eyes, a biopic of 1960s artist Margaret Keane.
Keane was famous for her drawings of children with large eyes, which were sold under the name of then-husband Walter. During their divorce proceedings, she was forced to paint in front of a judge to prove that the works were hers and gain the right to use her own name.
According to Variety, the independently-financed movie will focus on her "personal awakening" as a result of the feminist movement and the subsequent lawsuit over her artwork.
It will be directed by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski from their own script.
Hudson is currently promoting adventure film Fool's Gold, in which she stars with Matthew McConaughey. The pair have revealed that they had to flee from deadly jellyfish while shooting the movie in Australia.

Fortunately, having to pay $2.7 million for every 30 seconds of TV time was seemingly sufficient to keep the sponsors and their agencies reasonably focused.
On the downside, focus isn't always synonymous with inspiration. Who exactly thought a guy in a mouse costume pummeling a guy with a bag of Doritos would move product?
In general, it was a pretty conservative year, with most ads seeming to chase ads that worked in the past. Some familiar tactics paid off and others looked, well, familiar. Here are some of the best and worst from the first half of the game:
BEST
Bud Light, Wine and Cheese Party. Bud Light does a Guys Outsmart The Girls spot each year and this one is worthy, though it does play it safe. Maybe Anheuser-Busch figured women had already suffered enough, what with the date who was blowtorched and all.
Careerbuilder.com, Chicken Heart. Animated critters are close to their expiration date, as the painful ad for Life water proved. Those lizards are still dancing, right? So maybe it's time to give a shot to animated body parts of critters. Somewhere someone is working on a storyboard for the pancreas.
Cars.com, the Stone Circle of Fire, or Death, or something. Sticks to the basics: one funny idea played straight. Added points for a strong fadeout punchline, because there's nothing worse than a good 26-second ad in a 30-second window.
Budweiser, Hank the Horse. The guy equivalent of a chick flick, except it only lasts 60 seconds. No further jokes here, please.
Toyota, Badgers. Look at it this way. When your premise is "badgers threaten to rip a guy's face off," you deserve a lot of credit for ratcheting it up to even reasonably funny.
WORST
GoDaddy.com, Danica Patrick. Ads about themselves run a serious risk of looking self-indulgent, and someone might tell GoDaddy that rule even applies to companies that think they deserve hip-and-cool immunity. Okay, the ad probably drove a lot of traffic to the Web site. It's still a mediocre use of $2.7 million.
Audi, "Godfather." How many times have we seen this? Great idea, great setup, then it doesn't know where to go. Even in 60-second ads, less is sometimes more.
Bud Light, Cavemen. It's time for a moratorium on cavemen. Not a discussion. A moratorium. Take five, guys. We mean it.
Pepsi, Justin Timberlake. He gets pitched into traffic, rammed into a mailbox and clobbered with a car seat and we are supposed to come away with a clear understanding that Pepsi wants to give away music. Maybe it's some sort of subliminal metaphor for what the music industry has been trying to do to people it thinks are trying to get free music.
Bridgestone, squirrel in the road. If the object of advertising is to shatter glass, we have a winner.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are reportedly planning to renew their wedding vows to celebrate getting their marriage back on track after a troubled few years.
The couple married in a lavish ceremony at Skibo Castle in Scotland in December 2000 but are now planning to repeat their vows in a ceremony at their Wiltshire estate this summer.
A source told the News of the World that friend Stella McCartney has been asked to design Madonna’s outfit for the event, Gwyneth Paltrow will do a reading and the couple will exchange eternity rings.
The source explained:
“Renewing their vows is the one way Guy and Madonna can show the world they are strong.”
“They’ve worked hard to iron out their differences to get through the tough times.”
“It’s going to be a very emotional day and that’s why they want the people who are closest to them to share it with them.”

Lindsay Lohan was interviewed for Harpers Bazaar magazine, here are some of the highlights:
On partying, but being a homebody at the same time:
“I have it in me to go, go, go. I’m still young. I love life. I love music and being around that. I love people, and I’m a very social person. But I also love being home, quiet and normal…I’ve always been a homebody…Seriously…I was just running away from what my home had become.”
On the last year:
“When I look back on this last year, it’s like, what was I thinking?”
On the paparazzi:
“The cameras are constantly there, and they’re constantly looking for the negative. So one roll of the eyes and you’re deemed drunk. One wrong step, your ankle twists, and you’re drunk. They can declare, ‘Lindsay drunk in the day!’ Which I never was in my life, actually.”
On her dreams of a music career:
“I’d love to work with Timbaland. I’d love to work with Kanye West, 50 Cent if I could.”
On the one thing she can’t give up:
“I always feel like I need a cigarette with coffee. But I’m trying to smoke less.”
