Nicole Kidman's latest maternity outfit is nothing if not daring.
The Hollywood star stepped out in a bizarre black frock with large sheer panels to promote her film The Golden Compass in Japan yesterday.
The see-through dress momentarily distracted from her emerging bump, which she nursed carefully during the photo call.
Nicole is scheduled to return to the US later this week ahead of the Academy Awards on Sunday night, where she will resent an Oscar along with fellow Hollywood luminaries Helen Mirren, George Clooney and Katherine Heigl.

Pink has confirmed she has split from her husband.
The 'Stupid Girls' singer and her husband of two years, motocross racer Carey Hart, insist their marriage has come to an amicable end.
Pink's publicist Michelle Schweitzer said: "Pink and Carey Hart have separated. This decision was made by best friends with a huge amount of love and respect for one another. While the marriage is over, their friendship has never been stronger."
The pair first met in 2001 but broke-up in 2003.
However, they soon rekindled their romance and in 2005, Pink proposed as Carey competed in a biking competition at Mammoth Lakes, California.
They married in January 2006 in a non-denominational ceremony in Costa Rica, in front of guests including Lisa Marie Presley.
However, last summer their union was said to be on the rocks as the singer had grown tired with her husband's constant dalliances with other women.
A source said at the time: "Divorce is just around the corner. Carey has this one blonde in particular that he takes everywhere, even public appearances. But Pink knew what she was getting into!"
Pink was also seen kissing a mystery woman at Santa Monica's Viceroy Hotel.
A source said: "She was flirting the way you'd expect her to flirt with a man, cuddling and being overly affectionate. They were making out."

Lindsay Lohan is taking the same drugs Heath Ledger was using when he died, says her father.
Michael Lohan claims the 21-year-old beauty has been prescribed many of the same drugs tragic star Heath was taking when he died of an accidental drugs overdose in his New York apartment last month.
He said: "Even before Heath's death, I told Lindsay that I'm very concerned about the pills she's taking. Doctors had Lindsay on Oxycontin when she broke her wrist.
"They also had her on Adderall for her Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Xanax for depression and anxiety and Ambien for insomnia."
Michael - who visited Lindsay when she sought treatment for her drug addictions in Utah's Cirque Lodge rehab clinic last year - is worried about doctors' readiness to prescribe medication for troubled young people.
He added to In Touch Weekly magazine: "I'm not only fearful for Lindsay, but for all the other kids out there. Most of these young people shouldn't be on some of these medications - instead, they should get spiritual guidance, counselling and exercise.
"These new drugs get into their bones and bloodstreams and they have to detox to get off them or they can have seizures or possibly die."
Lindsay - who is rumoured to have dated Heath - has spoken out about the 27-year-old's sudden death, insisting she would never follow in his footsteps.
She said: "It's so tragic what just recently happened to Heath. He is a prime example of what this industry can do to someone. But I sure as hell wouldn't let it happen to me."

"It was very tastefully done," Dina tells PEOPLE of the photos, a recreation of Marilyn Monroe's legendary 1962 photo shoot shot by Bert Stern. "I respect the photographer as an artist, so I look at them artistically. For him to call Lindsay 46 years later and to say can you recreate these photos is an honor. I looked at it as art, and as Lindsay doing a character. So I don't look at them like it's Playboy; she was being a character. So if you look at it that way, you can look at it as a mother."
And Dina adds that had the photos been inappropriate, Lindsay's sister Ali would not have visited the set. "Trust me," Dina tells PEOPLE, "I wouldn't have sent my 14-year-old to the set [if the shoot was in bad taste]. And obviously Lindsay wouldn't do anything with her sister there, that was risqué."
Lindsay, 21, also viewed the shoot as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Dina tells PEOPLE.
"Lindsay was very excited when she first got the phone call," says Dina, 45. "Of course we talked about how they would be done. Lindsay said, 'Mommy, I'm never going to get this opportunity to do it again.' She was very thankful she was asked."
And being a Monroe fan, only made Lohan even more determined to do the shoot.
"She's always loved Marilyn," Dina says. "For Christmas, my girlfriends even gave her a Marilyn cookie jar. I think there's a sadness that Lindsay feels for Marilyn. Lindsay really saw it as a gift back to someone."
But Lindsay made sure she was in tip-top shape for the shoot. "Lindsay did 250 crunches before because she was nervous since she had never done anything like that before," Dina says.

An onlooker said: "There was cupcake frosting all over Rihanna's face and the group was hysterically laughing to the point of almost tears!"
Chris Brown, who is rumoured to be dating Rihanna, was later given a standing ovation after he sang her an acapella version of Happy Birthday.
Despite Chris insisting he and Rihanna are "just friends", onlookers at the exclusive club said the pair were "cuddling and acting very cosy all night".

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was spotted on a secret Valentine's Day date with his co-star Emma Watson.
The young celebrities were seen paying a visit to the Imperial Arms in Fulham, west London, at 22:00 GMT on February 14th, reports the Mirror.
A source reportedly told the newspaper: "They arrived quite late at the pub - about 10pm - and sat outside, using each other's bodies for warmth."
They added that Emma, who wore a black top and pashmina, kept looking around "nervously" and at one point concealed her face with her scarf.
"The pair seemed totally absorbed in one another's company, though - they were chatting and joking easily until just before closing time," they continued.
Emma and Daniel met seven years ago on the set of Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone.
Since then they have co-starred in a further five adaptations of J K Rowling's novels.
