"Shannen Doherty will be returning to 90210," Gabe Sachs, executive producer of the CW's new spin-off, said during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday.
"Shannen is looking forward to returning to 90210," Doherty's rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Doherty, who played the twin sister to Jason Priestley's character Brandon Walsh for four seasons of the original Beverly Hills, 90210, will return as Brenda Walsh when the new show premieres Sept. 2.
Now, Brenda will be a visiting drama teacher who directs a musical at West Beverly High School.

Britney Spears hit a star-studded event Saturday night, hanging with Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey at their fundraiser for Generation Rescue, an organization dedicated to researching autism.
"She looked great and seemed really happy," a guest told People.com, of the pop star.
She didn't socialize much with the other partygoers, but "she smiled and clapped during the video about autism. She was very into the information and watched a little bit of the dancers from Dancing with the Stars, sneaking out during one of the performances."
Hayden Panettiere has enjoyed the last few months outfitting her house — and now she's giving OK! Magazine all the details.
“I bought a house. I spent my summer setting up my new house and buying furniture,” she revealed at the NBC party celebrating the fall TV season on Sunday night. “It’s a good size,” she smiled. “It’s contemporary. It’s a space that doesn’t need a lot of clutter in it, so it’s pretty simple."
And while Hayden has jumped into the adult world of homeownership, she's still doing the typical teen thing of having a roommate — at least for now. "My best friend from home, from New York, is actually moving in with me for a year," She explained. "So it’s not like I’m living in this house, partying by myself.”
When asked if she would have parties there, Hayden said, “Oh, yeah!”
According to the actress, her new pad is perfect for having friends over. “I have this big living room and I have this 14-foot by 14-foot couch," said Hayden. "I fill pretty much the whole room with it and it’s kind of the hangout spot... It’s comfy and people can make a mess in the room.”
Even though Hayden turns 19 on Aug. 21, she admitted she’s still has her little girl moments now that she's living on her own. “My parents are down the street so when it’s late at night and I don’t feel like being by myself, I’ll be like, 'Hi, dad.’ [He’ll say] ‘just come over.’ I’ll be like, ‘okay! Twist my arm!’ ”
After all, there are always those things that your parents do better than you, right? “I still want a mom and dad to take care of me and do my laundry, ‘cause I can’t do it. No, I’m kidding. I can do laundry!”

Actress Uma Thurman has sparked reports she is pregnant with her third child - after she was photographed with a protruding stomach.
The Kill Bill star announced last month (Jun08) she is set to marry Swiss businessman Arpad Busson, whom she has been dating for a year.
And new pictures of the 38-year-old in a bikini while vacationing on the island of Corsica this week (begs14Jul08) have aroused reports she is pregnant, according to the New York Daily News.
A spokesperson for Thurman is yet to comment on the reports.

The source added: "When Pete heard he might have his baby on Halloween, he went nuts. For a rocker type like Pete, that would be just too perfect!"
It was recently reported Ashlee, 23, has embarked on a strict exercise regime to avoid gaining too much weight during the pregnancy.
A source said: "She's still clinging to the hope that she can limit her total weight gain to no more than 30 to 35lbs. So she is doing low-impact exercises, such as riding the stationary bike and Pilates."

Mark Ronson has hit out at rumours Joss Stone once made sexual advances towards him and apologised to the singer for the false claims.
The acclaimed DJ was said to have turned down a sexual proposition from the soul star because he is "picky", according to reports circulating in British tabloids last week (beg14Jul08).
But, in a new post on his official MySpace blog, Ronson declares he has never actually met Stone.
He writes: "I hate commenting on this bulls**t but there's some story going around saying that I refused the sexual advances of Joss Stone and also said she was some 'boring, bland soul chick' or something.
"Let me set the record straight. I was definitely not referring to Joss Stone in that quote and I've never actually met her.
"I'm sure she's a nice person and she has a lovely voice so I wanted to address this rubbish story and apologise to Ms Stone, who kind of gets enough s**t in the press as it is without being drawn into my tabloid drivel."

Khloe Kardashian has entered jail Friday and exited the facility after spending less than five hours inside.
The 24-year-old TV reality personality was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for probation violation stemming from her DUI charge last year. But just like others, she was released from Lynwood's Century Detention Center a lot earlier than planned.
Kardashian, who was accompanied by sisters Kim and Kourtney and mom Kris Jenner, was booked at 8:52 a.m. She entered the jail at 10:36 a.m. and was released at 1:29 p.m.
The tallest Kardashian sister was sentenced to jail on July 3 after admitting that she never completed neither the alcohol-education program nor the probation and community service she was ordered to do as part of her DUI sentence last March 2007.

A cameraman claims to have a video of Madonna and baseball player Alex Rodriguez romping on a sofa.
He is trying to sell the tape - allegedly shot with a hidden camera in an apartment owned by a friend of the cameraman which was used by the couple for secret liaisons - for $2 million.
The unnamed owner of the tape claims he visited the property and hid a camera, pointed at the sofa which captured the X-rated footage two months ago.
A legal source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper that the implications of the secret filming could be dire for the cameraman, saying: "If footage was obtained in this way it would be an outrageous invasion of privacy. But more than that he would not have had his friend's consent to install the camera and must have entered the apartment without approval to hide it.
"He would be guilty of voyeurism. Instead of making a million he'd be going to jail for a few years."
Madonna, 49, has vehemently denied rumours she has been having an affair with baseball player Alex - nicknamed A-Rod - and has repeatedly denied reports of a rift in her marriage to Guy Ritchie.
Madonna's lawyers are "aware" of the sex tape claims, but have refused to comment further.

Gemma Arterton, the secret agent's love interest in the new Quantum Of Solace movie, has told how producers had to give Bond star Daniel Craig a lift when she put on her high heels.
Gemma says Craig, known to be prickly about the subject of his height, took the news "with good humor".
Arterton, who is 5ft 7in, said: "Daniel is 5ft 10in but when they put me in heels, I was taller than him and it didn't look good on screen. The whole point of Bond is that he is masculine and hunky and he has to be taller than his girlfriend. Daniel had to wear shoes with a lift in them and stacked heels for a few scenes, but he took it very well. He thought it was funny."
Arterton added: "Daniel is the sexiest Bond ever.He didn’t have to wear the special shoes during the whole film, just for the scenes where they wanted me in stilettos.
I teased him about it and he took it in good humor.
