U.S. teen actress-singer Selena Gomez has been named spokeswoman for the 2008 "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" campaign, the world organization announced.
Gomez is the star of Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place." She has also appeared on "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "Hannah Montana."
This month marks the 58th anniversary of "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF," a program that encourages U.S. children to raise money for children around the world while they collect their own candy on Halloween.
"I am extremely excited to be this year's 'Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson,'" Gomez said in a statement. "I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world and show them that 'Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF' is such a great, fun way to get involved."
"We are thrilled to have Selena be a part of the 'Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF' program this year," said Caryl Stern, president and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. "Young people can relate to Selena, and she is a great role model who we believe will greatly enhance the visibility of the program."
The "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" program has raised more than $140 million to date, the organization said.

The 30-year-old has just been unveiled as the face of Hoof, a campaign which aims to encourage inner-city children to take up riding for the 2012 Olympics – which Katie herself has expressed interest in competing in.

In the hot new footage the Toxic star opens the video posing totally nude in a steamy sauna, prompting fans to brand the clip her sexiest to date.
And the video is so risque, TV bosses decided to censor the video before it premiered on U.S. news show 20/20 on Friday night (10Oct08) - to ensure younger fans didn't catch sight of the sexy scenes.
Spears, who made a triumphant comeback by winning three gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards last month (Sep08), also plays a sexy chauffeur, a leather-clad, tattooed waitress and a flirty secretary in the video.
Womanizer is the first track to be released off Spears' forthcoming album Circus, which the singer brands "her best work yet".

The Country music fans had the chance to see Jessica Simpson over the weekend in Concord, N.C. for a few days of NASCAR. Jessica put some black short shorts on for a Saturday night performing a 40-minute concert at Lowes Motor Speedway.
The pop singer-turned-country talked recently about the switch and said to the press, “Country music is where my heart is. It’s been a shock to the media and the outside world but, to my friends, family and loved ones, it’s somewhere I’ve always been.”

More than four years after saying "I do," Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony secretly renewed their vows in Las Vegas early yesterday, according to People.com.
The renewal ceremony comes after the couple spent the previous evening club-hopping in Las Vegas and taking in a show. Most in the city believed the couple was in the city to celebrate Anthony's birthday from last month.
"[Marc] said they were in town for his birthday and they wanted to celebrate," said a source who talked to the couple.
On Friday, the couple headed to LAX Nightclub and The Bank after checking out Criss Angel's new Cirque Du Soleil show "Believe" -- all under the guise the couple was in town celebrating Anthony's birthday.
