PETA's senior vice president, Dan Mathews, chatted with the actress at the Fontainebleau Hotel opening in Miami over the weekend. In August, the group released a statement that said: "Gwyneth Paltrow won't be the apple of her daughter's eye if she continues to flaunt fur."
ccording to Mathews, Paltrow graciously said: "That was awkward, and I'm glad you asked, because I do not wear fur at all.
"It was a daylong photo shoot on a boat near Capri, and there were all sorts of poses with all kinds of clothes - none with fur," she added. "During one set-up, a stylist came up from behind and draped a stole around my shoulder.
She continued: "I didn't pay much attention to it, and when I noticed it was fur, I assumed it was fake fur, but did not ask, so it's my fault. I was very surprised when they ended up using that one shot out of hundreds for the centerpiece of the Tod's ads.
"I know it's not a great excuse, but I hope you and your members understand."

The actress made the request in an open letter to new US President Barack Obama, 47, which was posted on her blog.
"Dear Mr Obama," she writes. "I think we should legalise marijuana. We should be able to farm hemp in America."
And Pamela, 41, who is a vegetarian, issued further policy demands.
"Bring our troops home safely. Please shut down Guantanamo Bay – figure it out," she writes.
"Why do we have illegal immigration? It should be made easier for people to work here.
"Government must castrate every molester – or potential molester – error [sic] on the safe side.’"

U.K. girl group The Pussycat Dolls have launched an exclusive underwear range on London's Oxford Street. The launch conveniently coincides with their latest U.K. stadium tour.
For those who thought they could catch a glimpse of the girls in the new range by high street lingerie retailer La Senza, it was a disappointment as the girls were reasonably covered up for the occasion in stylish dresses and latest footwear.
The girls displayed a great range of footwear from knee-high boots to platform shoe-boots and sheepskin boots at the launch of "Shhh," the new sexy "underwear as outerwear" collection that includes cami sets and burlesque-style corsets.
Band creator Robin Antin told The Sun U.K. that the La Senza range signifies "flirtatious, fashion and fun," which is why they chose Pussycat Dolls for this launch. It is the first lingerie range to be designed by the Dolls in the U.K.

A lavish A-list three-day party for more than 2,000 guests is to be kicked off in Dubai with a performance by Kylie Minogue.
The pop princess's pay cheque at the grand opening of the flagship resort Atlantis, The Palm, has ranged in reports from Ł1 million to Ł3 million.
Also on the invite list were Charlize Theron, Sarah, Duchess of York, Agyness Deyn, Dame Shirley Bassey, Robert De Niro, Janet Jackson, the Dubai Royal Family and Lily Allen.
Minogue opened her 60-minute performance with On A Night Like This, wearing a black and gold Jean-Paul Gaultier creation, designed for the occasion and closed with I Should Be So Lucky.
Guests dined on signature dishes prepared by Atlantis' multi Michelin-starred chefs, Santi Santamaria, Michel Rostang, Giorgio Locatelli and Nobu Matsuhisa, before heading to the Royal Afterglow party with DJ Sam Ronson.
A spectacular fireworks display marked the official launch of the landmark and its flagship resort.
It stretched across the full 520km (323 miles) of Palm Jumeirah, lighting up the entire island and Atlantis resort, creating a display that organisers said was visible from space.
Atlantis is a 1,539 room, ocean-themed resort located at the centre of the crescent of the man-made Palm Jumeirah island, costing 1.5 billion dollars.

Katie Price stripped down to her smalls to show off her new underwear range at supermarket chain Asda today.
The 30-year-old launched a new lingerie range for George at Asda and had no problem playing to the cameras.
Wearing a saucy red and black bra and g-string at the launch in Essex, she said her range is not for skinny women.
The range comes in sizes 32 to 38 and D to G cup sizes.
She said: "My Katie Price range is for the bigger busted woman and I can assure you that the bras will give women the best lift and support - and of course look sexy!'
"There are lots of people who promote their underwear with stick thin models but I wanted to use my family and friends so that's what I did. Everything about the underwear is what I wear."

"It's tribal," she told People. "It represents strength and love." She also revealed that she got her new tat while in New Zealand. "It's their traditional way of tattooing," she added. "I always wanted [one]." Though the Maori-inspired geometric design looks cool, she admits, "It hurt like hell!"

Celebrity couple Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z top the annual list of Hollywood's 20 Top-Earning Couples, compiled by Forbes magazine. They earn a total of $162 million fortune between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008, Forbes reports in a post on its site.
The 2nd Top-Earning Celebrity Couple is Will Smith and his actress wife Jada Pinkett Smith, both of whom bank $85 million, with Will doing most of the earning, taking in $80 million from the success of his movies "I Am Legend," "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Hancock." David Beckham and his wife Victoria Adams are ranked 3rd on the list with collective earnings of $58 million.
Country music couple, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, secures the 4th spot, taking in an estimated $35 million between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008. Behind them there is Hollywood power couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The movie stars and parents of six children bank $34 million together.
Film producer and director Judd Apatow and his actress wife Leslie Mann also make the list at No. 6 with a total income of $30 million. Next is singer Gwen Stefani, who alongside his husband Gavin Rossdale earn a total of $28 million. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are at No. 8, with $3 million less, followed thereafter by Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, both of whom earn $22.5 million. And in true celeb fashion the couple have given the baby boy a rather unusual name inspired by a New York district (a la Brooklyn Beckham) and a classic Disney film.
Pete and Ash’s child is called…. Bronx Mowgli Wentz and came into the world on Thursday night weighing 7lbs 11oz.
The couple married in May and after months of speculation announced the pregnancy a few weeks later.
Popstar Ashlee gave birth at A list hospital Cedars Sinai Medical Centre- where Britney Spears was treated for mental health problems.
The couple are expected to sell the photos of their new-born to a celeb magazine.
