The Shutter Island star said that it is very important to keep grounded when you're famous.
DiCaprio told Parade magazine: "Just because you've done a good performance once, doesn't mean you're always going to be good. That's why some of the greatest actors in the world have gone a little bit nuts.
"They're saying to themselves, 'What happened? You used to love me?' It's an easy trap to fall into. You just have to realise that when you're hot, you're hot, and when you're not, you're not.
"I know this is going to sound lame, but one of my favourite things is hanging out with my friends. They take me away from the world of showbusiness and keep me grounded. It brings me back to who I am."

Britney Spears shared an exclusive behind-the-scene’s photos from her 2010 Candies Only at Kohl’s ad on her official website.
For this photo shoot, Britney worked with Annie Leibovitz, Mark Seliger and Terry Richardson
"Annie, Mark and Terry are three of the biggest photographers in the world -- I am honored to be working with them for my Candie’s Only at Kohl's ads," Spears said in a statement. "It was an amazing shoot, and I know my fans are going to love the cool images."
The photo shoot -- which took place at Paramount studios in Hollywood late last year -- had three different themes for each photographer.
Leibovitz's photos feature Spears against an industrial backdrop, while Richardson photographed Spears on a plain white set with colorful props. Seliger, however, created elaborate sets, such as a French burlesque-inspired pink dressing room and a field with a custom-designed pink Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
"This is the most exciting shoot we have ever produced for Candie's," Dari Marder, the chief marketing officer of Iconix, said in a statement.

A stalker who bombarded Hollywood actress Keira Knightley with gifts and letters has been charged with harassment and is due to stand trial later this year.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star, who is currently appearing in The Misanthrope at the Comedy Theatre on Panton Street, London, was reportedly left petrified of Polish fan, Marek Daniluk, 41, after he waited outside the theatre where she was performing.
Daniluk, who is thought to suffer with mental health problems, allegedly grabbed the 24-year-old actress after one performance and asked whether she'd received his gift, to which she replied: ‘Yes, thank you.'
In her statement to police, Knightly said she had become ‘worried and distressed' by his behaviour at the stage door.
Daniluk, of Enfield, North London, was arrested on Thursday night and appeared before the City of Westminster magistrates' court on Saturday. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and will stand trial in June.

Kim Kardashian came under fire from her Twitter.com followers on Tuesday (16Feb10) after she nearly disclosed the identity of an undercover U.S. air marshal while onboard a flight bound for Los Angeles.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star logged on to the micro-blogging website after boarding a plane in New York and told fans she was seated next to a top secret agent - whose identity is concealed to ensure the safety of fellow passengers.
She wrote: “I’m on the airplane…love wifi. I am sitting next to an Air Marshall (sic)! Jim the air marshall (sic) makes me feel safe!”
Kardashian’s ‘tweet’ sparked fury among some of her followers, who raised concerns about the star exposing such privileged information.
But Kardashian brushed off the criticism and defended her air companion, whose full name was not revealed.
She responded: “RELAX I just told u guys the Air Marshall (sic) is sitting next to me, highly doubt anyone is twittering like me on this flight! Shhh.
“Air Marshall’s (sic) are supposed to keep their identity concealed. He did! I am just a private eye & assumed, so I asked him & he was honest!”
