"Heidi is going through a difficult time and hopes people respect her privacy," says the spokesperson.
On Tuesday last week Heidi tweeted: "I am not Heidi Pratt, I am Heidi Montag."
She is believed to moving out of the couple's home and going to stay with former Hills star Jennifer Bunney.
Heidi's pals don't think the split with Spencer will be permanent.
"There are no plans for divorce, they are going through some issues," a friend tells US Weekly. "It's a hiccup."
No legal papers have yet been filed regarding the split.
