The "Alejandro" singer was deemed an obvious contender for the "Best New Artist" category this year but was ignored because she had been unsuccessful in being nominated for "Best Single" the previous year.
According to Ace Showbiz, outcry amongst fans has prompted Grammy bosses to amend rules on the eligibility process, meaning acts who weren't nominated for "Best Single" in the previous year are now eligible for the "Best New Artist" award.
Officials have also changed the rules for classical music producers, who can now be considered for "Producer of the Year" by submitting one song, opposed to previous years' three.
GaGa was still awarded two prizes at this year's Grammys, for "Best Dance Recording" for "Poker Face" and "Best Electronica/Dance Album" for The Fame.

Beyonce Knowles narrowly escaped serious injury after her car door was ripped off by a taxi in London.
The 'Halo' singer opened the door of her Mercedes after deciding to pop into top store Harrods en route to a restaurant in the UK capital's Knightsbridge area.
Shoppers looked on in horror as the taxi collided with the car's door, ripping it off its hinges and missing Beyonce by just a matter of centimetres.
The pop star - who was travelling with her hip-hop guru husband Jay-Z - looked visibly shaken after the incident.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It was terrifying to watch. It all happened so quickly, the taxi came out of nowhere.
"She seemed very shaken and was lucky to be alive. A couple of seconds difference and God knows what could have happened."
Beyonce, 28, and Jay-Z, 40, were on their way to a romantic meal at Japanese eatery Zuma when the singer decided to make her impromptu stop.
After the accident, the couple were forced to dump the damaged car - and were sent a replacement to take them to the restaurant.
She was later seen looking happy and relaxed after leaving Zuma with Jay-Z.

Headed to jail on July 20, Lindsay Lohan resurfaced -- on Twitter -- to defend the expletive scrawled on her fingernail and rail against "torture" in U.S. courts.

A little while later, the actress, who was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab for a parole violation, wrote a diatribe against a "constitutionally perverted" judicial process.
"It is clearly stated in Article 5 of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights that.... 'No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.'"
Lohan sobbed in court on Tuesday when Judge Marsha Revel read the verdict. (The probation violation relates to her 2007 DUI arrest). But the actress and fashion designer could spend as little as 25 percent of her 90-day sentence behind bars, due to jail overcrowding.
She added on Twitter: "This was taken from an article by Erik Luna.. 'November 1 marked the 15th anniversary of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. But there were no celebrations, parades, or other festivities in honor of this punishment scheme created by Congress and the U.S. Sentencing Commission."
"Instead, the day passed like most others during the last 15 years: Scores of federal defendants sentenced under a constitutionally perverted system that saps moral judgment through its mechanical rules."

Organizing committee spokesman Jermaine Craig says Sunday's (July 11) show at Soccer City will be "more youthful and a bit more technologically advanced" than the June 11 opening ceremony.
Craig says the nighttime event has "nice lighting effects and special effects planned."
The closing ceremony is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. local time, two hours before the final match kicks off.
Colombian star Shakira will perform the official tournament anthem "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)." Shakira also performed the song at a June 10 World Cup concert in Soweto.

In her book, Kendra describes the battle she had with drugs and self-mutilation and her eventual trip to the psych ward.

The celebrity blogger posted the image of the star on his UnratedPerez website, which seemingly shows the singer with her top pulled up and hands covering her breasts.
Hilton annotated the supposedly leaked shot with the words "DJ Stolen" and "c*m" and wrote: "Kesha Nude And Covered In C*m!!!! Such a trashy wh*re!!! LOVE it!!!!"
In a post on his regular blog, Hilton added: "Real or Photoshopped??? Sure looks real to us!!!!
P.S. The person who leaked it also leaked one of her songs!!!!"
On his Twitter page, Hilton wrote: "OMG!!! Kesha naked picture leaked! Covered in semen!!!!"
He then sent a link to the image to Ke$ha herself and other stars including Adam Lambert, Katy Perry and Rihanna,
Hilton later messaged Ke$ha again with the words: "Keep it trashy! xoxo."
