The 37-year-old was snapped wearing the 1850s-inspired baggy knickers while out shopping in Santa Monica with her husband Len Wiseman.
Even in the 1850s the underwear failed to become commonly accepted but had a brief stint in style in the 1920s, when they were worn short and resembled baggy knee-length gym shorts.
Beckinsale finished off the fashion disaster with black leather cowboy boots and an old fashioned frilly pinafore.
The couple had been shopping at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, so hopefully her husband helped her pick a better outfit to change into.

Perry is to guest in a Christmas-themed Simpson episode that features the characters as puppets, where she’ll play Moe’s girlfriend.

The singer appeared as a busty 16-year-old librarian on mock women’s daytime talk show Bronx Beat.
“What the hell happened to your shirt? Looks like today’s show was brought by the number 38 and the letters double-D!” the Sun quoted one of the hosts as asking her.
Perry looked down and cupped her breasts.
“I guess I developed over the summer,” she said.
The singer hams up the part, chewing gum wildly, playing with her hair and pulling wild facial gestures while putting on a teenage voice.
“You do your thing at the library - the kids come for the boobies and stay for the books. Everybody wins,” the host added.
