Leonardo DiCaprio will play a period serial killer in "The Devil in the White City."

The project is currently set up at the actor's Appian Way company. Double Feature Films is also producing. "Devil" has no distributer as of yet, but DiCaprio has a first look deal with Warner Bros.

Variety reports:

DiCaprio will play H.H. Holmes, who murdered somewhere between 27 and 200 people, mostly single young women. Erik Larson’s nonfiction book “The Devil in the White City,” which has sold 2.3 million copies and been translated into 17 languages, is set against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, tells the intertwining stories of fair architect Daniel H. Burnham and Holmes, who used a hotel he built near the fairgrounds to lure his victims.

"Devil" was first put in development by Tom Cruise and Paul Wagner at Paramount. Their option expired in 2004 and Paramount required the film and set it up with Double Feature Films.

Leonardo DiCaprio, apparently turned off by Mel Gibson’s recent domestic abuse scandal, won’t be appearing in a new flick directed by the scandal-plagued star.

DiCaprio officially sunk the idea of appearing in Gibson’s new movie, a period piece about Vikings, according to Radaronline.com .

DiCaprio, riding high on the wave of success from his new film "Inception," doesn’t want to damage his public image by working with the controversial actor-director, the Web site said.

"Leo has earned the right to pick and choose who he works with and Mel Gibson is not one of them," a source told Radar.

Leonardo DiCaprio has set his sights on playing J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's upcoming biopic Hoover. The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and Robert Lorenz through Image and Malpaso. It will be released by Warner Bros.

This news comes from Deadline, who have announced that the film begins shooting later this year, most likely in the fall. Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for his writing work on the biopic Milk, completed the screenplay for Hoover earlier in the year. It was originally meant for Universal Pictures to produce, but that changed once Eastwood came on board.

Hoover comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is directed by Clint Eastwood.

Jewish extremists have urged supermodel Bar Refaeli not to marry her actor boyfriend, Leonardo DiCaprio, because it would dilute the Jewish race, according to media reports.

In a letter to Refaeli, far-rightist Baruch Marzel wrote on behalf of nationalist group Lehava, which aims to fight assimilation among Jews: "It is not by chance that you were born Jewish.

"Your grandmother and her grandmother did not dream that one of their descendants would one day remove the family's future generations from the Jewish people,"
the letter continued. "Assimilation has forever been one of the enemies of the Jewish people."

Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed that he understands why some actors go "nuts".

The Shutter Island star said that it is very important to keep grounded when you're famous.

DiCaprio told Parade magazine: "Just because you've done a good performance once, doesn't mean you're always going to be good. That's why some of the greatest actors in the world have gone a little bit nuts.

"They're saying to themselves, 'What happened? You used to love me?' It's an easy trap to fall into. You just have to realise that when you're hot, you're hot, and when you're not, you're not.

"I know this is going to sound lame, but one of my favourite things is hanging out with my friends. They take me away from the world of showbusiness and keep me grounded. It brings me back to who I am."

Leonardo DiCaprio Romancing Russian Model Anne Vyalitsyna

Leonardo DiCaprio has found love with another model - he's reportedly fallen for Russian beauty Anne Vyalitsyna.

The actor met the blond in London last month during a break from filming sci-fi movie "Inception" and promptly whisked her and a group of friends away for a sunshine holiday in Ibiza, Spain, reports Britain's The Sun newspaper.

And the star is seemingly smitten with the 23-year-old, enjoying a number of nights out in the British capital with her over the last week.

A source tells the publication, "It's very early days but they can't keep their hands off each other. When Leo first arrived (in London) there were swarms of girls all over him but now he only has eyes for Anne."

DiCaprio ended his relationship with supermodel Bar Refaeli earlier this summer and previously dated Victoria's Secret star Gisele Bundchen.
