Val Kilmer is trying to sell his ranch near Santa Fe, putting his nearly 6,000-acre ranch on the market for $33 million.

A buyer would get almost six miles of Pecos River frontage, a fishery and wildlife habitat including bears and bobcats. The ranch has a Southwest-style main house of nearly 5,600 square feet and a smaller caretaker's home, as well as other guest homes, barns, garages and outbuildings.

Kilmer has lived in New Mexico more than two decades and has had the ranch about 13 years.

Val Kilmer is turning his hand to politics – with the help of actor and Californian politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Top Gun actor is to run for governor in his home state of New Mexico.

"It's been my home for 25 years," he says. "I really love my state. I've always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.

"I'm approaching this as a serious endeavour. I would be very comfortable in my position as a representative for the people.

"People in the state are being supportive."

But Val, 48, wants to proceed with caution.

"I know that I'm not yet qualified for the job and I don't want to be a train wreck,’ he tells the New York Post.

"I plan to sit down with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Being famous as an actor is one thing - they take no prisoners in politics."

Val Kilmer is tipped to become the next governor of his home state of New Mexico - by the politician currently in the hot seat.

Democrat Bill Richardson has to step down from the position when his second term ends in 2011 - and he would love to hand over the keys to the governor's mansion to Kilmer.

He says, "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics. I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted."

Kilmer - who is actively involved with the The Wildlife Center of New Mexico- wouldn't be the first actor to become a governor. Hollywood icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan have both held the position in California.

The Saint star VAL KILMER has gotten quite chunky these days. He seems to be having a weight problem. Photos were taken of him strolling on a California beach - with his fat belly hanging out.

Well, he is 46-years-old so he's allowed to have a little excess fat. His representative insists that Kilmer is in fine shape and looked great is his last photoshoot for American magazine Nylon.

Sometimes photos can tell a thousand lies.
